Image Compressor
Reduce the file size of JPG, PNG and WebP images directly in your browser.
Runs in your browserFree image tool
Convert an image to JPG, PNG or WebP. The conversion happens in your browser, so your image isn't uploaded anywhere.
This tool runs in your browser. Your image is converted on your device and isn't uploaded to ClearCut or anywhere else.
Higher quality keeps more detail and makes a larger file.
This image has transparent areas. JPG can't store transparency, so they'll be filled with this colour.
Drag a JPG, PNG or WebP file onto the tool, or pick one from your device. Your browser opens it locally.
Choose JPG, PNG or WebP. For JPG and WebP you can set the quality, and for JPG you can pick a fill colour for transparent areas.
Your browser re-saves the image in the new format. Check the preview and the file size, then download it.
The converter supports the three most common image formats on the web. It doesn't open or create other formats.
| Format | Open | Save as | Good to know |
|---|---|---|---|
| JPG | Yes | Yes | Best for photos. No transparency. |
| PNG | Yes | Yes | Lossless, keeps transparency. Large for photos. |
| WebP | Yes | Most browsers | Smaller files, keeps transparency. Some browsers, including Safari, can't create WebP. |
The maximum file size is 25 MB, and images can be up to 16 megapixels (for example 4096 × 4096 pixels). HEIC, GIF, TIFF, SVG, AVIF and RAW files aren't supported.
Converting re-saves your image, so a few things change along the way.

No. The Image Converter reads and converts your image in your browser, and the converted file is created on your device. This is different from ClearCut's Background Remover, which uploads images to our servers for processing.
You can open JPG, PNG and WebP images and save them as JPG, PNG or WebP. Saving as WebP needs a browser that can create WebP files. If yours can't, the option is disabled and the tool tells you why.
Yes, but JPG can't store transparency, so the transparent areas are filled with a colour you choose (white by default). To keep the transparency, convert to WebP or keep the image as a PNG.
Saving as JPG or WebP uses lossy compression, so some detail is lost. At the default quality of 90% the difference is usually hard to see. Saving as PNG doesn't lose any further detail, but it can't restore detail that was already lost.
JPG throws away detail to make files small, while PNG stores every pixel exactly. The same photo as a PNG is therefore often several times larger. If you want a smaller file, WebP or the Image Compressor is a better choice.
Yes. Files can be up to 25 MB and up to 16 megapixels. The work happens on your device, and some browsers, especially on phones, can't handle larger images.
