Disclaimer
The terms on which ClearCut's background remover and articles are provided.
Last updated:
This disclaimer applies to the ClearCut website at clearcutbg.com, including the Background Remover, Image Converter and Image Compressor, and the articles on our blog. By using the website, you accept the terms below. If you don't agree with them, please don't use the website.
1. The service is provided as is
ClearCut provides free online tools for removing image backgrounds, converting images between formats and compressing images. We provide it "as is" and "as available". We try to keep it working well, but we don't promise that it will meet your needs, work without errors, or produce a particular result for any given image. We may change, pause or discontinue any part of the website at any time.
2. Accuracy of results
Background removal is performed automatically by an AI model. Results depend on the image and can be imperfect. Parts of the subject may be removed, parts of the background may remain, and fine details such as hair, fur, glass or thin objects may not be separated cleanly.
Converting and compressing an image saves it again. Lossy formats and lower quality settings reduce detail. Transparent areas are filled with a solid colour when saving as JPG. Details such as camera information and location data aren't kept, and some results may be larger than the original file.
You're responsible for checking every result before you use it, especially where accuracy matters, such as product listings, printed material or anything published under your name or brand.
3. Your responsibility for uploaded images
When you use the Background Remover, your image is uploaded to our processing service. The Image Converter and Image Compressor process images in your browser without uploading them. Whichever tool you use, you're responsible for the images you process. Only use images that you have the right to use and edit. Don't process images that:
- infringe someone else's copyright, trademark or other rights;
- show another person in a way they haven't agreed to, or contain other people's private information without permission;
- are unlawful, abusive, or otherwise inappropriate to share with an online service.
Please don't upload images containing sensitive personal information, such as identity documents, unless you're comfortable sending them to an online service. See our Privacy Policy for how uploads are handled.
4. Copyright and trademarks
Removing the background from an image doesn't change who owns it or the licence under which it may be used. If you didn't create an image and don't have permission to use it, editing it with ClearCut doesn't give you that permission.
Logos, brand names and trademarks that appear in images or articles belong to their respective owners. Mentioning a product or service on this website, including in our articles, doesn't mean that its owner endorses ClearCut, or that we endorse it.
5. Acceptable use
Please use ClearCut in a normal, lawful way. Don't attempt to disrupt, overload or gain unauthorised access to the website or the processing service. Don't use automated scripts to send large numbers of images, and don't use the service to process content for unlawful purposes. We may limit or block access where we believe the service is being misused.
6. Third-party services
The website relies on services provided by other companies, such as our hosting provider, Google Fonts for typography, Formspree for the contact form, Amazon Web Services (AWS) for background removal, and Google AdSense for advertising. Links to share an article on social networks take you to those networks. These services are operated by third parties under their own terms and privacy policies, and we aren't responsible for how they work or how they handle information. The Privacy Policy lists them in more detail.
7. Availability
The Background Remover depends on a server-side processing service. It may be unavailable from time to time, for example during maintenance, updates, outages or periods of heavy use. We don't guarantee any particular level of availability or processing speed. If you depend on an image for something time-sensitive, keep your original file and allow time to try again.
8. Articles and general information
Our blog articles are general information about photo editing and design. They aren't professional, legal or business advice. Details such as recommended social media image sizes, marketplace requirements and app features change over time, so please check the relevant platform's official documentation before relying on them.
9. External links
Some pages link to other websites. We provide these links for convenience. We don't control those websites and aren't responsible for their content, availability or practices.
10. Limitation of liability
To the extent permitted by applicable law, ClearCut isn't liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of the website, from being unable to use it, or from relying on its results or content. This includes loss of data, business, income or reputation. Always keep a copy of your original images.
Nothing in this disclaimer excludes or limits any liability that can't be excluded or limited under applicable law.
11. Changes to this disclaimer
We may update this disclaimer as the website changes, for example when we change how a tool works. The date at the top of this page shows when it was last updated.
12. Contact
