Privacy Policy

This policy covers the ClearCut website at clearcutbg.com. We've tried to write it in plain language and to describe only what the website actually does. Where something hasn't been decided yet, we say so.

1. Images you upload to the Background Remover

ClearCut removes backgrounds on a server rather than inside your browser. When you submit an image, it's uploaded to our processing service. The service removes the background and sends the result back to your browser so you can preview and download it.

Before anything is uploaded, your browser checks the file type and size. Files that aren't JPG, PNG or WebP images, or are larger than 5 MB, are rejected without being sent.

The processing service runs on AWS Lambda, part of Amazon Web Services (AWS). If you choose a white, black or custom background colour for your result, that colour is added in your browser; the image isn't uploaded again.

Retention: we haven't yet published how long uploaded images and processed results are kept. When we do, we'll add those details to this section. Until then, this policy makes no specific commitment about retention or deletion times. Please don't upload images you aren't comfortable sending to an online service.

2. Image Converter and Image Compressor

The Image Converter and Image Compressor work differently from the Background Remover. They use your browser's built-in image features to open, convert and compress images on your device. The images you choose, and the files these tools create, aren't sent to ClearCut's servers or to any other service.

3. Messages you send us

If you use our contact form, we receive the name, email address, subject and message you enter. The form is handled by Formspree, a third-party form service that delivers submissions to us. We use this information to read and reply to your message.

4. Technical information

Like most websites, ClearCut and the services it uses may receive technical information when you visit, such as your IP address, browser type, device information and the pages you request. This information is typically recorded in server logs by our hosting provider and by the third-party services listed below.

5. How we use information

• To process images you submit to the Background Remover and return the result to you.
• To read and respond to messages you send us.
• To operate, secure and troubleshoot the website.

6. Third-party services

The website currently uses the following third-party services:

• Hosting provider: serves the website's pages and files.
• Google Fonts: provides the Inter typeface. When a page loads, your browser requests the font from Google's servers, which receive your IP address.
• Formspree: processes contact form submissions.
• Google AdSense: shows ads on the website. Google and its partners, as third-party vendors, use cookies to serve ads based on your previous visits to this and other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on those visits. You can opt out of personalised advertising in Google's Ads Settings. Google explains how it uses information from websites that use its services at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.
• Social sharing links: the share buttons on blog articles are ordinary links. Facebook, X (Twitter), LinkedIn or Pinterest only receive information if you click one.

The processing service for background removal runs on Amazon Web Services (AWS). Images you submit to the Background Remover are sent to AWS to be processed.

7. Cookies and similar technologies

ClearCut's own code doesn't set cookies. Third-party services, in particular Google AdSense, may set cookies or store data in your browser. You can block or delete cookies and site data in your browser settings.

8. Analytics

We don't currently use an analytics service on this website. If we add one, we'll update this policy first.

9. Your choices and rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights over your personal information, such as the right to access it, correct it, ask for it to be deleted, or object to how it's used. To make a request or ask a question about your information, please use our contact form.

10. Children's privacy

Our service is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

11. Changes to this policy

We'll update this policy when the website changes. The date at the top of the page shows the latest version. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new policy on this page.
